02 Fishing Fleet II

The original prints of these views of yachts and fishing smacks plus the shot of the fish market, are on very thin photo paper and are sepia.

They have now been identified as the Lowestoft fishing fleet at home around 1900. I am extremely grateful to Mr Durrant at www.gorleston-heritage.co.uk for this information. He says:

"The smacks have the Lowestoft registration (LT) and the long low buildings are the fish market which looks like Lowestoft, although most are similar to
this. The problem for me would have been that the herring smacks followed the fish shoals around the coast of Britain with Cornwall early in the year,
moving to Ireland, up to Scotland in the summer round to Sheilds finishing up at Yarmouth and Lowestoft for what we called the home fishing. Of course the clincher was the interior of the fish market and the board with "Sayer and Hollo" which was "Sayers and Holloway" that I found in 1902 Kellys for Lowestoft."
